Italian Sausage and Pepper Pasta Using MJ’s Italian Pizza Sauce
Ingredients
- Pasta (such as penne or spaghetti) - 8 oz (225g)
- MJ’s Pomace Olive Oil - 1 tablespoon
- Italian sausage, casings removed - 1/2 pound (225g)
- Onion, thinly sliced - 1 small
- Bell pepper (any color), thinly sliced - 1
- J’s Italian Pizza Sauce - 1 cup
- Salt
- Pepper
- Grated Parmesan cheese
- Chopped fresh basil or parsley, for garnish (optional)
Instructions
1. Cook the pasta according to the package instructions until al dente. Drain and set aside.
2. In a large skillet, heat the olive oil over medium heat.
3. Add the Italian sausage to the skillet, breaking it apart with a spoon. Cook until browned and cooked through. Remove the cooked sausage from the skillet and set it aside.
4. In the same skillet, add the sliced onion and bell pepper. Sauté for about 3-4 minutes until they start to soften.
5. Return the cooked sausage to the skillet and add the Italian pizza sauce. Stir to combine everything well.
6. Let the sauce simmer for a few minutes to heat through and meld the flavors. If the sauce seems too thick, you can add a splash of water to reach your desired consistency.
7. Season the sauce with salt and pepper to taste. Remember that the sausage and the sauce might already have some salt, so adjust accordingly.
8. Add the cooked pasta to the skillet and toss it with the sauce and sausage mixture until everything is well coated.
9. Let the pasta heat through for a minute or two.
10. Divide the Italian sausage and pepper pasta among serving plates.
11. Sprinkle grated Parmesan cheese over each plate and garnish with chopped fresh basil or parsley if desired.
12. Serve the Italian sausage and pepper pasta as a hearty and flavorful meal.
